USDA Policy Memorandum SP 46-2016 requires all School Food Authorities (SFAs) operating federal school meal programs to have a written and clearly communicated policy. Below is our current policy:
From the first day of school through Memorial Day, all students will be limited to charging up to fifteen dollars ($15) for unpaid lunches at the time of purchase. Once the delinquent balance of a student reaches fifteen dollars ($15), an alternative meal will be served to that student. From Memorial Day through the end of the school year, students will not be allowed to carry a negative balance.
No staff member can be allowed to carry a negative balance. Lunches must be paid for in cash or by having a positive balance in their account. No exceptions can be made.
An alternative meal consists of a cheese or peanut butter sandwich, fruit, and milk. When a student’s balance falls below zero, parents will be notified via email or letter so they can send cash or deposit money through Meal Magic Family Portal. All cash received will be credited to the student lunch account. No cash back will be given on monies meant for lunch accounts.
